Remote support for MS patients Online service piloted

- Graham Miller

Monklands residents living with multiple sclerosis will be able to access a specialist nurse without having to leave their home.

The Access Revive MS Service ( ARMSS) will allow people living with the neurological condition to log in via their computer or smartphone and speak to a nurse about a range of MSrelated issues and receive clinical and emotional support via a remote consultation.

Other services which will be available remotely will include physiotherapy, counselling, mindfulness and speech, and also language therapy.

The pilot is being run by the charity Revive MS Support in conjunction with Healthcare Improvement Scotland and the Scottish Centre for Telehealth and Telecare.

Revive’s MS specialist nurse Mhairi Coutts, who joined the service earlier this month, said: “The virtual clinic is to enable people to access services remotely for a variety of different reasons – if they have no transport and find it difficult to get to appointments; if they are housebound; if they are working and find it difficult to get time off for clinic appointments; or if they live in rural areas.

“Any person with MS can participate or a relative or carer of someone with MS.”
