Diamonds bowled over by big boost
Sensory room project given a grand leg-up
Caldercraig Bowling Club and the Airdrieonians Supporters Trust raised £ 1000 for the Diamond Sensory Room project at their first ever joint bowling day.
Teams from the club and the Diamonds came together for the fun day as over 50 people took part.
The money will go towards the continued development of a sensory room for kids with autism in the Excelsior Stadium.
Chairman of the bowling club John Telford was delighted to be able to welcome the Trust to the club, adding: “Airdrieonians Supporters Trust’s innovative scheme is to be highly praised and Caldercraig are proud and happy to assist this great cause in any way it can.
“Caldercraig are working hard to build up good community relations and introduce lawn bowls to new people.
“We see this partnership as a great way to get new people involved in bowls
“Many local companies helped to make our first venture a great success; they were Arvill Plant Hire, Argon engineering, Printwell. Holemasters, Inverhouse Distillers, Moffat Group, Penny Cars, Christies Bakers, Fast Signs and Bon Bon
“Without this type of help these days would not happen.”
Dougy Allsop from the Airdrieonians Community Trust hoped the event would become an annual tradition.
He said about the event: “Both organisations were delighted with the outcome of the day.
“A strong connection was established which will hopefully flourish throughout the season.
“We hope that this will become an annual event, but also that those who had never played before liked what they saw and perhaps take up membership.
“Similarly, the Trust will look to make use of the excellent club house to hold more fundraising events throughout the season.”
