Hollie’s ace art greets racecourse visitors

Marvellous mural

- Judith Tonner

Airdrie art student Hollie Jamieson has seen her striking mural design unveiled to delight visitors to Hamilton Park racecourse.

The Advertiser told in February how the 18-year-old’s design had been selected from proposals submitted by New College Lanarkshire students to adorn the track’s grandstand tunnel.

Now Hollie’s artwork – featuring the drama of race day, the course’s unique “buttonhook” layout and its weddings and ladies’ night – is in place in the prominent area, connecting the trackside area with the course’s park and lawns.

The HNC art and design student viewed the installation for the first time as she unveiled it this week, and said: “It was really surreal seeing my artwork actually on the wall, it was so big!

“I couldn’t be happier having my name next to it. I thoroughly enjoyed the project and am delighted with the finished piece.”

Hollie, who is studying at the college’s Coatbridge campus, also received a prize of £250 for her winning mural.

Hugely impressed racecourse head of marketing and operations Ashley Moon said: “The mural has already been seen by thousands of racegoers and will take pride of place in the tunnel for years to come.

“The students have been a real credit to themselves with their professionalism and approach, and we’d like to thank them for joining us for this historic project.”

College lecturer Ke l l y Cunningham added: “The mural project has been an incredible experience for our students; the opportunity to work on a live project with a real client is amazing and we are very grateful to Hamilton Park for the opportunity.”
