Youngsters walk with pride
Brightly-dressed and fighting fit youngsters from schools across Monklands were among the thousands of participants at St Andrew’s Hospice’s annual Wear Yellow Walk.
The excited children and their teachers – from 75 schools throughout Lanarkshire – strutted their stuff in the 6k trek around a sun-kissed Strathclyde Park.
Everyone wore their yellow hats and t-shirts with pride as they did their bit to raise funds for the hospice.
Host radio DJ Steve McKenna and his assistants The Zumba Sisters got everyone warmed up beforehand with some dynamic dance moves.
Andrew Flynn, schools and community development coordinator at the hospice, said: “It was brilliant to see so many pupils and staff from Lanarkshire schools coming to support the work of St Andrew’s Hospice.
“We are so proud to be part of the amazing schools’ community that, year after year, take their fundraising that extra mile by getting involved in our events.
“The Wear Yellow Walk was a great success due to the tremendous support of the schools, event sponsor Tunnock’s, the team at Strathclyde Country Park, Strathmore Water, Gallacher Foods, Thomas O’Connell and our superb volunteers and staff.
“We would like to thank everyone who gave up their time to take part and we hope they had a fantastic time raising vital funds for the hospice.
“The money raised from this event will help us to continue to provide specialist palliative care to patients and their families from across North and South Lanarkshire.
“Our fundraising team have to raise £88,000 every week to maintain these vital services and we couldn’t do this without the amazing support of our local communities who continue to attend our events and donate so generously to our hospice.”
