Kenobi bored at these 80s exhibits
Eighties celebrations will include Jedi Knight classes
Youngsters will be able to embrace the power of the Force and become Jedi Knights like Star Wars heroes Luke Skywalker and Obi Wan Kenobi at Summerlee Museum.
The Coatbridge attraction will be hosting a Back to the 80s exhibition that explores the decade through toys, video games, fashion, music and film - including the hit Star Wars sequel The Empire Strikes Back, which originally opened in 1980.
The museum will also host a series of activities for children to enjoy during the school holidays, including arts and crafts, quizzes, animation workshops, film screenings, a games and comics showcase.
The Jedi Academy – which will be taking place on Tuesday, July 4, at 12.30pm – will give visitors the chance to embrace the power of the Force and train to be a Jedi Knight, as well as designing and constructing their very own lightsabre.
The building blocks for a fabulous time will also feature at the museum’s Lego animation workshops throughout July and August, with classic scenes from 1980s films like Indiana Jones, Back to the Future and Ghostbusters being recreated using Lego.
As if that wasn’t enough, there will also be something strange in the neighbourhood when a Ghostbusters-inspired ectoplasm investigation is held on Tuesday, July 11, at 12.30pm.
Fans of all things selfies can also take advantage of Photobomb the 1980s sessions, with green-screen technology allowing Monklands residents to put themselves in the 1980s using the museum’s selection of authentic props and costumes from the decade.
Summerlee’s 80s celebration runs from July 3 until August 11 and for further details on all of the attractions taking place, and to book slots at events in advance, call 01236 632828, email arts@culturenl.co.uk or visit https://culturenl.co.uk/summerlee/.
