Facebook readers create online buzz over return of Shawhead fly infestation
The Advertiser’s Facebook readers queued up to share their experiences and views on the return of a plague of flies to Shawhead for the second time in a year.
We told last week how GBS Recycling had been given a final warning from the Scottish Environment Protection Agency over the issue; and residents in neighbouring areas including Carnbroe and Kirkwood also told how they are also affected.
Adele McLean said: “I stay behind this place and [am] swarmed with flies just now. It’s horrible; I can’t even open my windows at all now, it’s so bad.”
May Aitchison said: “Horrible wee things – can’t even leave the door open for the dog or to let fresh air in. The cast of A Bug’s Life are having a party in my house.”
Sarah Boyle said: “Infestation of flies is terrible; it’s really difficult when preparing food. My back door is regularly opened and closed to let my dog in and out, but this can’t account for the amount of flies buzzing around. The plant needs put in a nonresidential site.”
Elaine Patterson agreed: “Can’t open the door for the flies in Carnbroe. What is getting done about it?”
In other news, readers had praise for diabetic Coatbridge mum Amanda Cosgrove, who has seen great health improvements after losing four stones in a year after joining Slimming World.
Kirsty May Crossan said: “Well done Amanda. It’s a long journey but so worth it”; while Karen McLean agreed: “I do Slimming World and have lost over three stones. It’s amazing – don’t think about it, just join.”
Abigail Boutcher posted: “Good for her, she looks fab,” and Lou Ferguson added: “Well done; that is an amazing achievement.”
North Lanarkshire will be hosting the British Transplant Games next month, and Martyn Jenkins commented: “Coatbridge indoor bowling club is hosting one of the events on Saturday July 29 – why not pop along and support the competitors?”
