Drivetimeextra Striking sizzler

-

The Audi A5 Coupe is a real looker and it can also deliver the goods on the road.

It has a handsome muscular stance and looks great from any angle as it draws admiring looks from other motorists and pedestrians.

Huge alloys, twin exhausts, LED headlights and privacy glass combine to enhance its sporting credentials and give the car a premium look.

At £40,410 this 2.0-litre TFSI quattro version the Coupe is not cheap, especially when the test car was fitted with some desirable options that took the total price to £48,365.

The car was powered by the silky smooth petrol engine mated to a fine seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission.

The power is delivered effortlessly and the car reached 62mph in just 5.8 seconds and has a top speed of 155mph.

Claimed combined fuel consumption is 45.6mph but I did not get anywhere close to that as I was enjoying myself too much behind the wheel. Emissions are rated at 144g/km.

As you would expect from a Coupe quattro the grip is superb and the handling sharp and agile. Even the recent heavy rain was no problem for the all-wheeldrive system and the steering was always accurate with good feedback.

Audi’s Drive Select feature allows you to choose from four different driving modes - Efficiency, Comfort, Auto or Individual - and paddle shifts allow you to take more control if you get bored in automatic drive.

The ride is as good as in many luxury saloons, despite the huge alloys and all-round visibility is surprisingly fine. Parking sensors and a reversing camera assist you in urban situations.

There is room for four inside the superb cabin and the two very large doors help make it fairly easy to clamber into the back.

Once inside you get to enjoy the quality that Audi always delivers in its interiors and the Coupe boasts all the company’s techno treats including the latest infotainment and connectivity features.

The car even hands you the seat belt and after you strap in you can enjoy the heated electrically adjustable seats and mirrors, the superb Bang and Olufsen sound system, a high resolution colour infotainment screen and Audi’s virtual cockpit screen display as well as the multifunction steering wheel.

Most of the Audi’s competition comes from rival German manufacturers but it is certainly the best finished car in its sector and simply oozes quality. As usual take care when you tick the options boxes or you will end up with a very large bill.
