All the fun of the fair

- Ian Bunting

All the fun of the fair will arrive in Airdrie town centre this Saturday when a hugely popular extravaganza hits the streets.

The town’s beloved annual fair day will pack in a cavalcade of family festivities from 10am to 4pm.

There’s something for everyone with sports activities for the fighting fit, cracking choreography from the Dance Fusion team, spellbinding tricks at a magic show and a bouncy dome giving revellers the chance to reach for the stars.

The Scots Guards will also be in attendance to put people through their paces with an obstacle course, bargains are up for grabs at a variety of stalls and face painting will be on offer.

Airdrieonians’ mascot Rocky the Rooster will put in an appearance to make sure visitors are cock-ahoop with joy and people will also have the chance to get a close-up view of some stunning, soaring birds of prey.

Thrillseekers can try out the big rides such as the Miami, Twister and more, and the Airdrieonians Supporters’Trust are organising a procession from Maggie’s Centre to the event and then St Andrew’s Hospice.

Talented performers from Monklands Light Opera are also holding their annual summer fayre on the day, providing stalls chock-a-block with handmade crafts, hair bows, jewellery, sparkle glasses and sweet treats, as well as putting on face painting for youngsters – all in Ebenezer Church hall.

Airdrie is the place to be on Saturday, then, with this year’s fair day set to be one of the finest yet – it’s an event not to be missed!
