Glenboig Neighbourhood House is among local good causes benefiting from a funding boost issued by the Co-op.

Maggie’s cancer caring centres will also be receiving grants thanks to the retailer’s membership scheme.

Funds are raised when Coop members buy own-brand products from food stores, or a funeral plan or services from Funeralcare.

Members are able to choose which good cause to support, with one per cent of the total of their qualifying purchases going to the community fund, while they also earn a five per cent reward for themselves.

Co-op chief membership officer Rufus Olins said: “The more people shop, the more we share. In April we paid out £9 million to over 4000 good causes, and that money has gone on to fund some fantastic projects in communities throughout the country.”
