BEAT Sir Elton gig a great success
chief inspector david sharp reports on a busy spell, not least due to the visit of a musical star... since my last on the Beat column three weeks ago, monklands police officers have attended 3398 incidents which have resulted in 781 crime reports being generated.
The majority of these incidents, which vary greatly in nature, have required police attendance.
And one event which witnessed considerable police presence was the visit of Sir Elton John to Airdrie’s Excelsior Stadium on Saturday as part of his Wonderful Crazy Night tour.
From our perspective we had to work very closely with various key partners to provide a substantial plan to maximise the safety of all attending.
This included road closures, external bike patrols, internal stadium patrols and deployment of trained public order officers.
The night was a success with only one arrest and I would like to thank all who attended for staying in good spirits and enjoying the event safely.
This week sees a focus on road safety and the highlighting of key messages that keep motorists, cyclists and pedestrians of all ages safe on and near roads.
The Monklands Police Twitter page has been posting key messages and guidance on how to stay safe and anyone can visit the Road Safety Scotland website for more information.
It is important that we talk about road safety to our children from a young age to ensure key messages are understood and risk reduced.
The local problem-solving teams as well as our safer communities officers will be out in the area during the summer holidays. They will be focusing on localism to ensure they are taking steps to prevent crime in your area, and protecting communities by reducing threat, risk and harm in their respective area.
They will also be attending numerous community events, so if you see them, please come over and say hello.
And speaking of saying hello, our weekly keep safe stall will be at Tesco in Coatbridge every Wednesday from 10am. This offers members of the public the chance to chat with officers regarding any issues in the community. There’s also an opportunity to pick up some free crime prevention advice and other goodies.
You can f o l l ow the activities of local officers via the Police Scotland Lanarkshire Facebook page or on Twitter @ MonklandPol or @ Cumbernaul d P o l . You can also follow your divisional commander, Chief Superintendent Irvine, on Twitter @ChSuptIrvine.
