Talking Politics

A lot has happened in the short time since I last wrote for the Advertiser.

In May and June the terrorist attacks in Manchester and London profoundly affected the nation and stiffened the resolve of people in every part of the UK to ensure this evil will never triumph.

It also presented a stark reminder that we should never take our democratic freedoms for granted.

During this same period there has been both a general election and local council elections.

I have always maintained that it is unhealthy for any party to have such a huge majority that they don’t have to listen or can merely ignore the views of other parties. So in this respect the both these elections have resulted in more balanced representation.

In North Lanarkshire, where there has been a majority Labour administration for many years, there is a healthier balance of political representation. In particular, I am delighted that there is now conservative representation on the council and that so many of my hard working colleagues
