Children’s outing The children’s trip to Ayr on Saturday was a great success. Although the weather wasn’t good, all those who attended thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Social club Activities this week include bingo on Sunday night, with tickets on sale from 8pm and eyes down at 8.30pm. The Lucky Joker is drawn at 8.25pm on Sundays, with tickets – priced £1 – on sale from committee members and bar staff throughout the week. The draw will be held every Sunday night throughout the Glasgow Fair. For further information on all of the above, see the club notice board. Da Capo music group The final practice for the season takes place on Monday, July 3, from 6pm to 9pm in the new venue of the orange hall on Baillies Lane. Anyone interested in learning the flute or drums is welcome to attend when the new season starts on August 7; contact John on 07525 064303 to find out more.

Councillor’s surgeries Councillor Sophia Coyle won’t be hosting any surgeries in July; they will resume from August, taking place on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month in the community hall.

Drop-in cafe in Greengairs Parish Church will be held on Tuesdays, July 4, and July 18, from 1pm to 3.30pm. Those who enjoy good company and home baking with tea or coffee are invited along.

Marching band Baillies Lane Flute Band’s last practice session until August takes place on Tuesday, July 4, in the social club from 7pm to 9pm. New flute and drum learners are welcome to attend when the group resumes in August; call John on 07525 064303 for further details.

Back Brae Gospel Hall The Sunday school runs from 2.30pm to 3.15pm, with the breaking of the bread also taking place on Sunday, at 11am. The evening gospel meeting is held at 6.30pm every Sunday, except the last Sunday of the month when the service runs from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. A prayer and Bible reading is held every Wednesday from 7.30pm to 9pm.

Miners’ memorial The Stanrigg Miners’ Memorial is open to all who wish to visit. July 9 next year will mark 100 years since 19 miners lost their lives in the disaster and anyone who would like to commemorate the anniversary can call 01236 830637. Transport to the memorial can also be arranged by calling the same number above.
