Yes, it really happened. Sir Elton John performed in Airdrie and it was an evening the 14,000 in attendance will never forget.

The legendary superstar provided the town with a wonderful crazy night as he and his band knocked out hit after hit to an ecstatic Excelsior Stadium audience.

Wilma Robertson was in the packed crowd: “Fantastic night. Loved the old lady dancing with her daughter. Everyone’s reaction was the same, aww.”

Stuart Mitchell also loved the cracking concert: “We all had a brilliant night... looking forward to more big acts in future.”

Tracey Brown agreed: “Brilliant night. Would love to see more big names following suit.”

Elizabeth Geraldine Caulfield added: “Superb concert – and within walking distance. Hopefully more concerts are on the menu.”

Susan Smith even had a suggestion for a potential future star to take to the Airdrie stage: “What about a wee bit of Rod Stewart to follow?”

Mary Teresa Beekman-Thomas posted: “Put our wee toon on the map!”

Lynda Boyce was impressed by Sir Elton’s sound: “Fantastic night, he sounds as good as he always did.”

A view backed by Elaine Davidson: “Fantastic night. Elton John is brilliant live.”

Janice Brown commented: “Great night, couldn’t ask for better.”

Mould Man Lanarkshire & Glasgow joked – we think – about the pop icon’s day in Airdrie: “Elton had steak pie in the Tudor, a few pints in the Four Isles, into Diamonds, and chicken pakora from 3 in 1 before being lifted – that would put Airdrie on the map!”

Dot Bell hailed the Excelsior’s hosting skills: “Was a great night and the venue was perfect.”

Margaret Jassal added: “Great night. Who are you going to have next? It’s a great venue.”

Alexander Mullen rocked on at the gig: “One word to describe last night – amazing!”
