Rugby club dinner had top guests

There was one heck of a guest of honour at Drumpellier Rugby Club’s annual dinner back in 1983.

The Coatbridge club served up “scrum-thing” special for members and guests by inviting colourful football commentator Archie McPherson along for a talk on the beautiful game.

Other speakers at the event included Glasgow High rugby player Andy Little and retiring Drumpellier skipper Mac Hutton.

The evening was chaired by Drumpellier president Ian McLaren, and vice-president Alistair MacKenzie is pictured with Archie, Andy, Mac and Ian in the Advertiser of May 20, 1983.

Archie had the honour of presenting Barry McKeown with the club’s young player of the year award.
