Driving ban for woman

- Court reporter

A catalogue of driving offences – including getting behind the wheel while more than threeand-a-half times over the legal drink-drive limit – has led to a Coatbridge woman being disqualified for two years.

Suzanne Donnachie began her day of motoring misadventure on October 10 last year by taking a car without the owner’s permission and driving off.

The thoughtless 47-year-old then drove through her home street – Bank Street – with 180 milligrammes of alcohol in her blood, the legal limit being 50.

She was subsequently pulled over by police officers who discovered Donnachie had also taken to the road without a driver’s licence and insurance.

Donnachie was then taken into police custody and later owned up to her ill-advised actions at Airdrie Sheriff Court.

A deferral was then ordered for background reports before Donnachie returned for sentencing last week.

Defence solicitor Frankie Morgan told the court his client recognised how reckless and potentially dangerous her driving was and that Donnachie expressed her remorse.

Sheriff Morag Shankland then addressed Donnachie directly: “You will be disqualified from holding or obtaining a driver’s licence for the next two years.”

The sheriff chose to admonish Donnachie on the driving without insurance charge.
