Projects receive Green Network funding
Two Monklands environmental projects have received funding from the Central Scotland Green Network (CSGN).
Plains Community Futures has received £993 for their flowerpot project, allowing local residents to purchase flowers for the village’s new planters, made from 18 whisky barrels donated by local distillery Inver House.
Volunteers will also be purchasing a poly tunnel, enabling them to grow their own plants with which to decorate their home area in future years.
The Advertiser told last month how Plains residents had re-established the community group and taken on the planter project, following their successes in the creation of a new woodland and a community garden.
Meanwhile, pupils at Kirkshaws Primary and Nursery will be enjoying a new outdoor learning experience in the new academic year.
The Coatbridge school has been awarded £876 for their“Studying Nature Outdoors”project – and will use the funds to create an insect study centre, wildlife and mini-beasts packages and transform a blank grassy space in their school grounds.
CSGN’s community project fund, supported by £30,000 from the Greggs Foundation, provides one-off grants to support small-scale greenspace projects which increase their community use and enhance the environment.
Network Trust chair Keith Geddes said:“The standard of applications was fantastic, and we have awarded the grants to a wide range of greenspace activities.
“Local initiatives like the flowerpot project are instrumental in achieving our goal of creating a high-quality green network across central Scotland to improve the quality of life for communities.”
