Social club Activities this week include bingo on Sunday night, with tickets on sale from 8pm and eyes down at 8.30pm. LOL275 and LLOL64 will be taking part in the CGL of Central Scotland Annual Demonstrat­ion this Saturday. They will start at 7.30am parading the village then move onto Airdrie for the district parade at 9.15am, Alloa for the main parade and rally and return to Airdrie for the evening parade at 6pm, finishing off parading the village at 7.15pm. A “Blue Night” will be held in the club’s main hall on Saturday, with entertainm­ent provided by Chris Dee; this is a ticket only event and tickets must be obtained from the demonstrat­ion committee beforehand. LLOL64 will be holding a prize bingo evening on Monday, July 10, in the main hall; tickets will be on sale from around 7.30pm and those wishing further informatio­n should contact LLOL64’s executive committee, with all donations greatly appreciate­d. The Lucky Joker is drawn at 8.25pm on Sundays, with tickets – priced £1 – on sale from committee members and bar staff throughout the week. The draw will be held every Sunday night throughout the Glasgow Fair. For further informatio­n on all of the above, see the club notice board.

Councillor­s’ surgeries Councillor Sophia Coyle’s next surgeries will be held on Wednesdays, August 9 and 23, at 6.30pm in the community hall. Conservati­ve councillor David Cullen will hold his first meeting in the village on Tuesday, July 18, in Stanrigg Memorial Hall from 7pm to 7.40pm.

Drop-in cafe in Greengairs Parish Church will be held on Tuesday, July 18, from 1pm to 3.30pm. Those who enjoy good company and home baking with tea or coffee are invited along. Back Brae Gospel Hall The Sunday school runs from 2.30pm to 3.15pm, with the breaking of the bread also taking place on Sunday, at 11am. The evening gospel meeting is held at 6.30pm every Sunday, except the last Sunday of the month when the service runs from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. A prayer and Bible reading is held every Wednesday from 7.30pm to 9pm.

Miners’ memorial The Stanrigg Miners’ Memorial is open to all who wish to visit. July 9 next year will mark 100 years since 19 miners lost their lives in the disaster and anyone who would like to commemorat­e the anniversar­y can call 01236 830637. Transport to the memorial can also be arranged by calling the same number above.
