Inspirational Airdrie youngster Morven Weir was showered with well-earned praise by the Advertiser’s Facebook readers.

The brave 11-year-old stunned medics by getting to ring a bell that signals the end of her battle with a rare form of Hodgkin lymphoma – after only six months.

Sharon Osborne posted: “And all the way she’s kept her beautiful smile; an amazing little girl.”

Robert Doyle added: “Fantastic news, well done Morven.”

Barbara Sefton agreed: “Wonderful news, Morven!”

Claire Beckett hailed Morven’s bravery: “It’s never easy for anyone to deal with a cancer diagnosis, never mind an 11-yearold. Morven has such remarkable courage and I wish her the very best for the future.”

Marion Young said: “Congratulations Morven.”

Curtis Shorter commented: “Fantastic news for Morven and her family.”

Encouraging debate among the Advertiser’s Facebook community was the Scottish Government’s decision to introduce legislation for a soft opt-out system of organ donation.

A recent consultation looked at various ways to increase the number of people being referred to the donation services in Scotland. The move has been backed by 82 per cent of those who contributed to the 14week consultation process.

Polo Mint was steadfast in her views: “Opt-out! I think there are few people who wouldn’t accept an organ if it meant saving their own life.”

Cee Jay agreed: “Opt-out all the way. If you feel strongly about it you’ll fill in a form to say ‘no thank you’.”

But Lynda Henderson took an opposing view: “Automatic opt-in.”

An opinion shared by Ytreggah Nyrak: “Automatic opt-in.”

Heather Paterson said: “Opt-in. If you don’t want to then you can go online and opt-out.”
