CHOKE BRUTE FACING PRISON

Thug throttled two female cops after violent assault on his partner

- Court reporter

An enraged thug who throttled two female police officers after violently attacking his partner is facing a lengthy jail sentence.

Burly Alan McKenzie’s violent outburst on April 27 left both officers bruised and bleeding.

The pair had been despatched to McKenzie’s home on Gartleahill in Airdrie after an early morning report that he had assaulted his partner.

Airdrie Sheriff Court heard last week how McKenzie, acting in a threatening and abusive manner, had seized the terrified woman by the head, pushed her onto stairs and into the family home. He was also shouting and swearing and punched a glass panel during the alarming incident.

When two female constables arrived to assess the situation McKenzie turned his aggression on to them.

Describing the scene prosecutor Gordon Crawford told the court: “He seized one by the throat and pushed her onto a couch, forcing himself on top of her.

“He compressed her throat and punched her on the head, seized her by the throat a second time and pinned her against a wall, forcing her head downwards while repeatedly punching her on he head.”

Out-of-control McKenzie then turned his attention to the other officer.

The prosecutor told how he seized her by the arm and pushed her into

a door frame, causing her to strike her head against it.

He then grabbed the officer by the throat and pinned her against a wall.

In addition to the attacks, McKenzie also pled guilty to resisting arrest and obstructing the officers in the execution of their duty by repeatedly lashing out with his arms and legs and tensing his body.

Mr Crawford added: “He was agitated and enraged. The officers were forced to use their CS spray to get the better of him. It subdued McKenzie and they were able to handcuff him.”

The first officer McKenzie attacked sustained two black eyes, swelling to her face and “significant pain”to her neck. The other suffered a cut to her finger.

McKenzie’s defence lawyer asked for a report to be obtained with a view to his client being supervised following any custodial sentence that may be imposed. He also stated McKenzie was already subject to a community payback order.

Sheriff Petra Collins agreed to obtain a full social background report and deferring sentence on McKenzie until next month.

McKenzie was remanded in custody.
