Man placed 999 call then issued threats to police
A troubled Townhead man threatened to hit emergency service vehicles with a bottle and went on to spout abuse at police officers, a court heard.
Connor Peat gave cause for concern when he dialled 999 from Townhead Road on November 24 last year and said he“intended to harm himself”by walking into oncoming traffic in an attempt to get struck by a car.
During the call, the distressed 21-year-old also claimed he would strike any car“with blue lights”that approached him with a bottle.
Police officers were despatched and attended the scene soon after, where upon Peat began shouting and swearing at them and acting “aggressively and erratically”.
Peat also refused to remove his hand from his pocket and his agitated conduct carried over into Coatbridge police office following his arrest, where he continued to utter violent threats towards officers.
The Tantallon Drive resident owned up to his unsettling behaviour and, following a deferral for criminal justice social work reports, appeared in the dock at Airdrie Sheriff Court last week for sentencing.
Peat’s defence solicitor revealed his client had experienced some troubling times previously and recognised that his “behaviour was unacceptable”.
Sheriff Petra Collins then told Peat:“I will impose a community payback order with supervision.
“This is a direct alternative to a fine.”
Peat will now be supervised by the court for the next twelve months.
