Perry to prove a point at Rovers
Centre-back aiming for big shock against QoS
Ross Perry hopes he can repay the faith boss Brian Kerr has shown in him after his summer switch to Albion Rovers against Championship outfit Queen of the South.
After coming through the youth system at Rangers, the centre-back’s Ibrox career came to an abrupt end after recurring injury problems, which have continued to hamper him during spells at Brechin and Raith Rovers.
The 27-year-old left Clyde at the end of last season after a squad overhaul at the Bully Wee following a scrap at the bottom of League Two, however a successful trial at Cliftonhill led to boss Brian Kerr snapping him up.
The former Scotland under- 21 international, who has started the Coatbridge sides Betfred Cup games against Stenhousemuir and East Kilbride, is now hoping to reach the potential shown in the early stages of his career.
With Queen of the South on the horizon he hopes Rovers can stun Gary Naysmith’s side.
“I’ve always backed myself even with a few bad years with injuries,” continued Perry.
“Last year at Clyde wasn’t the best. There were some big changes throughout the season and that didn’t help us, but I know it was a really disappointing season.
“I spent most of pre-season with Albion Rovers on trial and there was a really good nucleus to the squad. I’m happy that Brian has given me the chance and I can get a fresh start.
“Brian wants to get the ball down and play the game in the right way, and that is they way that I like to play my football.
“I’m determined to take the opportunity and prove myself. It’s a bit early for me to set targets, but I’m hoping to stay fit and get game time. It’s early on in the season but it’s a good group.”
He continued: “The game against Stenhousemuir was frustrating because we felt we had more than enough chances to win the game.
“We took the game to East Kilbride and it was a really good performance that we were happy with it, but we will adjust the way we play.
“We know that against Queen of the South we might have to change that and be on the backfoot at times.
“We will have a lot of respect for them but you have to believe that you can get a result even against the top two teams in the group.”
