Police hunt thief with ‘glowing skin’

- Ian Bunting

Police probing a make-up theft from a Coatbridge chemist caused a Twitter sensation as they laid the foundation for catching the culprit by seeking a thief with glowing skin and lovely lashes.

Officers took to social media to raise awareness of the £600 cosmetics heist and displayed a sense of humour in a bid to reach the largest possible audience.

The official Monklands Police account tweeted:“Theft Boots £600 cosmetics. We are looking for a 40 y/o man who looks 20, glowing skin, long eyelashes, raised eyebrows & pronounced lips.”

A follow-up tweet added:“In all seriousness, if anyone has any information please call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 anonymously. Happened at 1230 10/8/17.”

The original post was retweeted more than 500 times and attracted 900 likes.

And as well as raising awareness about the crime, which happened in Boots in Main Street, Coatbridge, it generated some brilliant banter.

@Alzo_M asked:“If you put him in an identity parade, will he be No 7 in the line up?”

@MonklandsPolice replied:“HAHAHA Belter! If he starts selling eye liner to others in the line up. That’s our guy #belter #mademelaugh”

@Jim__Douglas pitched in with:“Is there any foundation to these allegations? How did he conceal the goods?” The police replied:“Moisturisers and wrinkle creams were placed in a ‘Superdry’backpack which needed some instant hydration.

@marielynch99 posted:“Nearly choked on ma tea.excellent.hope you catch the buggers.”

As word about the tweet spread the comedy responses kept coming.

@seanzo001 said:“We’re looking furra polis wae a sense of humour...”

@MonklandsPolice hit back with: “Look nae further for the polis. But good luck with the sense of humour part.”
