Hundreds of youngsters enjoyed summer holiday fun at a playscheme run by volunteers from Craigneuk and Petersburn Action for Kids.

Sessions took place at New Broomfield each Monday afternoon throughout the holidays, with threeto 12-year-olds taking part in a wide range of activities including sports, arts and crafts, games and team building.

They also enjoyed an interactive music session with Rockin’ Rock Stars, an awards ceremony attended by parents and councillors, and ended the summer break in style on Monday with a trip to Blair Drummond safari park.

Primary pupils from all over Airdrie took part in what was Action for Kids’ third annual summer programme, and group founder Debbie Spiers said: “It was our busiest by far – it’s been phenomenal.

“We have 100 new children on our register, and from all different areas; it shows that word is getting out, and hopefully they’ll be inspired to come along to our weekly youth club.

“The final session at New Broomfield was our awards ceremony – the children did a dance for their parents and councillors who were there, and they all received a certificate of participation.

“Our programme had lots of fun activities, both indoors and outdoors, and then we had over 100 going to Blair Drummond. It’s been great and a big thank you goes to all our volunteers, including Duke of Edinburgh helpers – they’ve all been fantastic.”

Craigneuk and Petersburn Action For Kids run fun sports and play activities each Monday at Dunrobin Primary School from 6pm to 8pm.

The sessions are for children aged three-to-12 years and new members are welcome to attend.

The cost is £1.50 (including a tuck shop) and further information is available by calling Debbie on 07863 716959.
