Carson singles champ

-

Stevie Carson of the Workmen’s‘B’was crowned the BC Travel Group Summer Singles Champion last week.

Carson had to rely on all of his skills to come from behind to beat Tommy Rodman. The victory means Carson is only the third person to hold the regular season and Summer Singles Championship.

Rodman was at his best on the night and had already put Mick Docherty, Tommy Ferguson and Wullie Gilmour to the sword before beating Paul McGinley of The Clansman 3-1 in the semi-final.

Carson had been doing the business in the other half of the draw in some style.

Sammy Gilchrist had no response to Carson’s darts, but Jim Wood gave him a fright by winning a leg.

He then put in a 19-dart performance to beat Dougie Pairman, who will be a good addition to the squad from The Calderbank Post.

A great semi-final then took place with Kenny Campbell, who started well with a 16-dart win, before Carson levelled with a 19.

Campbell took the lead with a 20 and had two bites at the cherry to reach the final. Carson took a nervy fourth leg and a 16-dart performance took him to the final.

In the final, Carson threw a 180 in and secured 18-dart win to take the match to the decider.

Rodman knew he had watched his chance disappear, and Carson threw a 21-dart win in the final round to secure silverware. It was not his best of the night but it added his trophy-haul after a great season.
