Volunteers and staff from Airdrie foodbank had two successful days collecting donations at the town’s branch of Tesco.

Generous shoppers donated a staggering 850 kilograms of much-needed food items, as well as giving £350 in cash donations to the local good cause.

Representatives of the foodbank were joined by Airdrie & Shotts politicians Neil Gray MP and Alex Neil MSP during the course of the weekend collection.

Airdrie foodbank manager David Findlay said: “Once again we’re delighted that Tesco have given us the opportunity to collect both food items and cash – our staff are already sorting out the donations into emergency parcels.

“The Tesco neighbourhood food collection is a vital part of our work, and without the help of the community, we wouldn’t be able to help families who are in need.

“Demand for our services is sadly still high and all donations appreciated.”
