Social club Activities this week include bingo on Sunday night, with tickets on sale from 8pm and eyes down at 8.30pm. The Lucky Joker is drawn at 8.25pm on Sundays with tickets, priced £1, on sale from committee members and bar staff throughout the week. For more information see the club notice board.

Fireworks display will be held on Monday, November 6. The bonfire will be lit at 7pm. Children must be supervised by their parent or guardian. Back Brae Gospel Hall The Sunday school runs from 2.30pm to 3.15pm, with the breaking of bread also taking place on Sunday at 11am. The evening gospel meeting is held at 6.30pm every Sunday, except the last Sunday of the month when the service runs from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. A prayer and Bible reading is held every Wednesday from 7.30pm to 9pm.

Christmas party will be held for children aged 2-6 and a pantomime trip will take place for those aged 6-16. For more information see the social club notice board.

Miners’ memorial July 9 next year will mark 100 years since 19 miners lost their lives in the Stanrigg disaster and anyone who would like to commemorate the anniversary can call 01236 830637. Transport to the memorial can also be arranged by calling the same number. The slab in honour of David Ross Lauder VC has been cleaned and relaid.

Drop-in cafe will be held in Greengairs Parish Church on Tuesday, September 19, from 1pm to 3.30pm.

Baillies Lane Marching Band Practice takes place on Tuesdays in the social club from 7pm to 9pm. New flute and drum learners are welcome to attend. Call John on 07525 064303 for details. Councillors’ surgeries Councillor Sophia Coyle will hold surgeries in the village tonight and on Wednesday, September 27, in the community hall from 6pm to 6.30pm. Conservative Unionist David Cullen’s next surgery takes place in the same venue on Tuesday, September 19, at 7pm.
