Boxers enjoy KO wins

-

A Monklands boxing duo enjoyed knock-out wins on the‘Fight City’card in Linwood.

Airdrie’s Paddy Reilly made short work of Latvia’s Vadims Konstantinovs after a first round knock-out in the main event at the X Centre.

Reilly stalked his opponent, closed the gap and removed the huge Latvian’s reach advantage, before unleashing a heavy left hook.

He was frustrated that the fight was over so quickly but he can be satisfied with his night’s work. In the post-fight interview, Reilly explained:‘I’m a wee bit disappointed as I was just getting into my stride. “He looked strong but I flung an over hand left and caught him with it. “It was night night for him. Onwards and upwards.” On the undercard, Coatbridge’s Ben McGivern stopped England’s Malcolm Richardson in the first round. McGivern pounced from the first bell and unleashed a barrage of destructive shots to the body. Richardson emerged from the canvas after taking a heavy left hook to the temple and further shots to the frame. However, he was unable to return to his feet after being floored for a second time by more thunderous shots downstairs. McGivern says he is already itching to build on this victory. He added:“There’s a lot more to come from me.”
