Thomson knocks back Diamonds job offer

Former Rangers star Kevin Thomson is the latest big name to rule himself out of the the running for the Airdrieoni­ans hotseat.

The ex-Ibrox midfielder had been heavily linked to the head coach job but revealed he has turned down an offer from the Diamonds. Thomson confirmed that after impressive 5-0 win. However, he decided it wasn’t the right time to move into the dugout.

The 32-year-old, who also enjoyed spells at Hibs and Middlesbro­ugh, has attracted interest from clubs due to his work at the ‘ Kevin Thomson Academy’ as he bids to bring through the next generation of youngsters.

He stated that he had been contacted regarding a couple of management positions this summer but the Scotland cap doesn’t want to step away from his business - which launched just last year.

He said: “After all my hard work in the academy I would feel like I was letting too many people down by giving it up.”

He admitted he is keen to go into management in the future, saying he is “champing at the bit” to take the reins at a club.

“I want to aim as high as possible and want to keep growing my academy,” added Thomson.

Airdrie have been in limbo since head coach Mark Wilson left in June.
