Thom­son knocks back Di­a­monds job of­fer

For­mer Rangers star Kevin Thom­son is the lat­est big name to rule him­self out of the the run­ning for the Air­drieo­ni­ans hot­seat.

The ex-Ibrox mid­fielder had been heav­ily linked to the head coach job but re­vealed he has turned down an of­fer from the Di­a­monds. Thom­son con­firmed that af­ter im­pres­sive 5-0 win. The 32-year-old, who also en­joyed spells at Hibs and Mid­dles­brough, has at­tracted in­ter­est from clubs due to his work at the ‘ Kevin Thom­son Acad­emy’ as he bids to bring through the next gen­er­a­tion of young­sters.

He stated that he had been con­tacted re­gard­ing a cou­ple of man­age­ment po­si­tions this sum­mer but the Scot­land cap doesn’t want to step away from his busi­ness - which launched just last year.

He said: “Af­ter all my hard work in the acad­emy I would feel like I was let­ting too many peo­ple down by giv­ing it up.”

He ad­mit­ted he is keen to go into man­age­ment in the fu­ture, say­ing he is “champ­ing at the bit” to take the reins at a club.

“I want to aim as high as pos­si­ble and want to keep grow­ing my acad­emy,” added Thom­son.

Air­drie have been in limbo since head coach Mark Wilson left in June.
