Much love for golden couple and mixed views on Chapelhall business park plans
Inspirational Townhead couple Jean and Campbell Scott had an extra-special celebration to mark their 50th wedding anniversary – by becoming guests of honour in their favourite holiday town.
The golden pair were treated to a civic reception by the mayor of Blackpool, where the lovebirds spent their honeymoon and have since visited several times every single year.
Advertiser Facebook reader Anne Richardson was one of many lining up to honour Jean and Campbell: “Happy anniversary to you both. Oh, how I remember all our holidays in Blackpool. It was like walking down Coatbridge Main Street, there were so many container base workers there at the Fair.”
Eleanor Richardson has also had the pleasure of the couple’s company: “Aw, many, many memories of Campbell and family. A very happy anniversary to you both.”
Tracy Anne Richardson added: “Happy anniversary to you both. I wish you much love and luck.”
Michelle MacKinnon posted: “Aw, lovely. Mr Scott used to drive my kids to school, as did his sons Campbell and Ronnie.”
Our readers also responded to proposals to build a new business park in Chapelhall, which would include a hotel, pub and also a petrol station.
A public consultation on Gray Planning and Development Ltd’s vision for land at Lancaster Avenue and Biggar Road will take place in November.
Alister Koch is in favour of the plans, saying: “A good use of water-logged wasteland and anything that gives employment in the area is good in my book.”
Andrew Jordan agreed: “Great investment. Obviously a demand for it. And much-needed jobs for people moaning they need one.”
But Christopher Mills said: “Why can’t we leave the ground as it is? Nothing wrong with a bit of spare land.”
