Kids on the ball

Soccer camp scores

- Mark Pirie

Some of the Diamonds of the future strutted their stuff at the inaugural Airdrieonians football camp.

On- the- ball youngsters were delighted to take to the Excelsior Stadium pitch during the October school break – with members of the club’s under-20s squad joining in to help out with the coaching.

After a successful few days all of the children were presented with medals and goodie bags and were also delighted to be joined by Airdrieonians mascot, Rocky the Rooster.

The event , led by the Airdrieonians Supporters Trust, hit the back of the net with around 50 kids getting involved throughout the four days of sessions.

Stephen Eaton from the Trust told the Advertiser: “It’s safe to say that all the youngsters who took part thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

“Without the co- operation and help of many people this initiative simply would not have been the success that it was.

“Firstly to Airdrieonians FC and especially Gordon Dalziel who helped co-ordinate the the young apprentices who oversaw the coaching duties during the camp.

“And on that note we’d also like to thank Arran Ross, Calvin Cowie, Conor McLaughlin, Craig Truesdale, Ewan McGuiness and Scott Thomson for the fantastic commitment they gave to the camp and all the kids who attended.

“They are a credit to both the club and their families.

“And we also owe a huge thank you to everyone at the Excelsior Stadium for everything they did for the children. Without the fantastic access to the ground we were afforded throughout, it simply wouldn’t have been the same.”

Stephen added:“Thanks to all the children and their parents for getting behind the camp. We have received glowing reviews from them and hope to see them all coming back for more of the same in the future.”
