Band plays biggest gig

Coatbridge rockers gig at St Luke’s

Tijuana Bibles’ “dream year” is set to end on a high as the Coatbridge rockers prepare to bring the curtain down on their Scottish tour in style – with their “biggest headline show yet”.

Fresh from thrilling crowds in Edinburgh, Elgin, Inverness, Dunfermline and Aberdeen, the fourpiece band will perform a headline gig at Glasgow’s St Luke’s venue.

The eagerly-anticipated concert on Friday, December 1, will see Coatbridge take over the big city as the Tijuana Bibles lads will be supported on the night by fellow local band the Voodoos.

Excited Bibles frontman Tony Costello said: “The St Luke’s gig will be our biggest headline show yet.

“It’s a brilliant venue – our favourite in Glasgow; the sound is amazing and it has a beautiful backdrop.

“It’s wonderful to share the experience with the Voodoos, who we got to know while recording at Cave Wall Studios in Coatbridge; it’s going to be a big party as Coatbridge takes over Glasgow for the night!”

Tijuana Bibles’ hectic 2017 has seen them travel across the globe for shows that have taken them from the Reading and Leeds and TRNSMT festivals to sunny Spain, all the way back to their home country.

The neo-psychedelic rock ‘n’ roll outfit – comprising of Tony and brother Danny (bass), Mikey Dornan ( drums) and James Brannigan (guitar) – are embracing their busy schedule, though, as Tony explains: “We’ve been very lucky getting booked for festivals; we played the last T in the Park at Balado and the first at Strathallan Castle.

“This set us up well for playing at the Reading and Leeds and TRNSMT festivals this year; playing festivals is what you dream of when you start out and we’re still pinching ourselves.

“The crowds for our sets were amazing and people responded really well to our music.

“Going over to Spain was incredible too; we have a friend, Craig Williams, who sent over some of our tracks, as he lived there for years, and our songs kept getting played on local radio.

“We played a festival with Jesus and Mary Chain in Madrid and also performed in Valencia and the Basque Country; it was a breathtaking 10-day trip.”

Tony and his fellow bandmates are hard at work preparing fresh material as their remarkable rise since the band’s formation four years ago shows no sign of letting up.

He said: “We are in the studio mixing some new tracks and have a vinyl of our single “Pariah” due out soon.

“The vinyl will have a new track on it, called Catacomb, and we’ll release it ahead of our gig at St Luke’s.

“The guys are all loving our journey so far, but we can’t take it for granted as there are so many great bands out there who work very hard.

“We are four mates from Coatbridge having a great time and living our musical dream.”
