Da Capo music group will give a concert tomorrow at New Monkland Church in Glenmavis, at which the group’s flute orchestra will be performing. Doors open at 7pm and the concert begins at 7.30pm; admission costs £3 and includes tea and cakes. A learners’ class is held every Monday from 6pm to 9pm at the Orange hall on Baillies Lane in Airdrie; for more details, contact John on 07525 064303. Bonfire and fireworks display will take place on Monday, November 6, behind the village’s social club. The bonfire will be lit at 7pm and the fireworks display will take place at 7.15pm. Members of the ladies’ committee will supply soup and burgers for those attending, and each child will receive sweets and juice. Parents are asked to attend and ensure children are supervised throughout.

Drop-in cafes will be held in Greengairs Parish Church hall this Tuesday, November 7, and on November 21, both from 1pm to 3.30pm. The cafe runs on the first and third Tuesdays of each month and is open to all who would like to visit and enjoy tea, coffee and home baking.

Children’s Christmas events The children’s committee pantomime this year will be Aladdin, which will take place in the social club on Saturday, December 16. It is for children aged six to 16, and doors open at 5pm. A party for youngsters aged two to six will be held at the same venue on Monday, December 18; doors open at 7pm. Applicatio­n forms are now available from committee members and bar staff, and must be compeleted and returned by Sunday, December 3.

Social club activities this week include bingo on Sunday night, with tickets on sale from 8pm and eyes down at 8.30pm. The Lucky Joker is drawn at 8.25pm on Sundays, with tickets – priced £1 – on sale from committee members and bar staff throughout the week. Back Brae Gospel Hall Breaking of the bread takes place on Sunday at 11am, and Sunday school runs from

2.30pm to 3.15pm. The evening gospel meeting is held at 6.30pm every Sunday, except the last Sunday of the month when the service runs from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. A prayer and Bible reading is held every Wednesday from 7.30pm to 9pm. Baillies Lane marching band rehearse on Tuesdays in the social club from 7pm to 9pm. New flute and drum learners are welcome to attend; for further details, call John on 07525 064303.

Stanrigg miners’ memorial is open to all who wish to visit, and transport to the site is available by calling 01236 830637 to make arrangemen­ts.
