The only way is up for Workies A team

Skipper sets target after shock win

- Mark Pirie

The Workmen’s A recorded a shock win to move away from the foot of the Airdrie and District Darts League table.

Captain Lee Barber was overjoyed with the Workies performance as they threw some top darts in a convincing win over the Bank Social Club.

Charlie Morrisey was on the mark with a 180 and Kenny Watters threw a 19-dart win.

Lee Barber showed his troops the road to glory with a 20-dart victory. Barber has now set his sights on a top six finish for the A team – having finished bottom last term.

Upstairs in the club, the B side hosted The Albert Bar in what was expected to be a routine win.

Everything was going to plan with the home side 6-2 up at the break.

A brace of 21-dart wins for Davy Cunningham and a 180, followed by another from Jim Wood had put the boys on easy street.

A returning Gary Stone scored 14-dart and 17-dart wins to put the Workmen in a great position going into the pairs games.

Nobody told The Berties the script though, and they took the first, second and third matches, making the score 6-5 going into the last round.

It took great darts from Cammy Reynolds and Tam Ferguson to secure both points – despite a battling 180 from Albert man Ian Wilson.

The Boar’s Head demolished The Eagle in a match which saw the visitors struggle to reach the quality that they are capable of hitting.

A 114- checkout from Ped Cummings and a 180 from Paddy McKiernan were the highlights for the Coatbridge boys.

In Calderbank, The Post looked forward to the visit of The Clansman and were ready for a tough encounter with both squads at full strength. Alex McPheat got the visitors off to a great start with a 180 and a 12-dart win.

However, his teammates failed to get anywhere near that total and the home side ran out easy winners in the end.

A 100-checkout from Paul Cushen got the ball rolling and Dougie Pairman had a 19-dart win.

Kenny Campbell had two good games with 18- dart and 19- dart victories and Martin Moulds was on the scene with a 20-dart win.

The Forge have relocated and been renamed as The Barnyard – and celebrated their flit with a win over Wilson Arms.

John Grant led the way at their new home with a 19-dart win.

The Swan squad were hit by sickness and they failed to field a team in their visit to Carsons and the champions were automatically awarded the win. RESULTS for Monday, October 30: The Post 9 The Clansman 3, The Eagle 10 The Boar’s Head 2, Carsons 12 The Swan 0, Workmen’s B 7 The Albert Bar 5, Workmen’s A 9 Bank Social Club 3, The Barnyard 8 Wilson Arms 4.
