Brainy Coatbridge boys lift quiz trophy

-

Brainboxes from 7th Coatbridge Boys’Brigade were the well-deserved winners of the Airdrie, Coatbridge & District battalion’s relaunched“top team quiz”.

The quiz kids were in seventh heaven as they racked up a total of 88 points to take the trophy following the event at Blairhill Dundyvan Church – ahead of runners-up 1st Coatbridge and third-placed 1st Airdrie.

Players aged between 10 and 18 faced six rounds of individual and team questions on a range of subjects, including a new video observation round.

Winning team member Lewis Hendry said:“It was a great night – I liked that we had some questions to answer on our own, as well as some where we could talk to each other, and it was a brilliant reward to be presented with the trophy from the battalion president.

“I really enjoyed the new format, taking part alongside all the other teams and being able to have a competition with another team from my own Company; hopefully I’ll be able to help defend the trophy next year.”

A grand total of 76 members from across Monklands took part in this year’s contest – double the number that participated last year.

Battalion president George Bustard said:“I was delighted to see that such a large number of our boys and Companies got involved in the new top team quiz format.”

He added:“The new components such as the video observation round have led to a much more engaging event for all the young people taking part.”
