Just the ticket at rail station

New ticket office and waiting area

- Andrew Bargh

A brand-new state-of-the-art ticket office and waiting area has opened at Blairhill train station.

The new feature represents part of £5m worth of investment into the station.

The facility replaces the existing ticket kiosk on the Blair Road bridge and boasts a heated waiting area as well as an accessible ticket window and facilities for station staff.

The building is located between the Glasgow-bound platform and the car park, next to the dedicated parking bays for blue badge holders.

The work was part of a major set of improvements to the station, which began last year with the installation of a wheelchair accessible footbridge and lifts.

Kirsty Watson, project manager for the ScotRail Alliance said: “We’re building the best railway Scotland’s ever had, and excellent station facilities are a key part of this.

“With this new ticket office, we’re giving customers in Blairhill somewhere warm, dry and accessible to buy tickets and wait for their train.”

Humza Yousaf, Minister for Transport and the Islands added: “The Scottish Government is committed to making public transport a more accessible and attractive option.

“This investment recognises our commitment to improving the passenger experience and staff facilities.

“This latest project complements our £ 5 billion investment that is building the best railway Scotland has ever had.”
