Social club Activities this week include bingo on Sunday night, with tickets on sale from 8pm and eyes down at 8.30pm. The Lucky Joker is drawn at 8.25pm on Sundays, with tickets – priced £1 – on sale from committee members and bar staff throughout the week. Back Brae Gospel Hall The Sunday school runs from 2.30pm to 3.15pm, with the breaking of the bread also taking place on Sunday, at 11am. The evening gospel meeting is held at 6.30pm every Sunday, except the last Sunday of the month when the service runs from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. A prayer and Bible reading is held every Wednesday from 7.30pm to 9pm.

Miners’ memorial The Stanrigg Miners’ Memorial is open to all who wish to visit. July 9 next year will mark 100 years since 19 miners lost their lives in the disaster and anyone who would like to commemorat­e the anniversar­y can call 01236 830637. Transport to the memorial can also be arranged by calling the same number above. Drop-in cafe will be held in Greengairs Parish Church on Tuesday, November 21, from 1pm to 3.30pm. This is open to anyone who enjoys a cup of tea or coffee with home baking. The church ladies wish to thank all who gave their support for the event last Tuesday; a special tea and coffee event will be held to express their gratitude. Children’s Christmas events The children’s committee’s pantomime this year will be Aladdin. It will take place in the social club on Saturday, December 16, with doors opening at 5.30pm for a 6pm start, and is for kids aged between six and 16. A party for youngsters aged under six will be held at the same venue on Monday,

December 18. Doors open at 7pm and the event will run until 9.30pm. Annual visitors will be in attendance, along with Santa Claus. Applicatio­n forms are now available from the committee or bar staff and must be returned by Sunday, December 3. Check the club’s notice board for further informatio­n.

Community council The committee will celebrate 40 years in existence with a special dinner on Saturday, November 25. This is by invitation only and runs from 1pm to 4pm. The following day, an open invitation is given to all children and parents to attend an event from 2pm to 4pm, where tea and coffee and home baking will be supplied and face painting and games provided for the kids. The community council’s AGM takes place on Monday, November 27, in the community hall from 7.30pm to 8.30pm. Councillor’s surgery Councillor Sophia Coyle’s next surgery will be held on Wednesday, November 22, from 6pm to 6.30pm in the community hall. Ms Coyle has collected a toy bank for local children and it will be available for parents to have a look at during the meeting. Baillies Lane marching band Practice takes place on Tuesdays in the social club from 7pm to 9pm. New flute and drum learners are welcome to attend; call John on 07525 064303 for further details. De Capo music group Anyone who would like to play the orchestral flute and drums are welcome to attend the group. Sessions run on Mondays from 6pm to 9pm in the orange hall on Baillies Lane; contact John on 07525 064303 for more details.
