Carsons slump to shock defeat

Workmen’s B snatch league lead

- Sports reporter

The Post pulled off a huge upset to stun champion Carsons and allow Workmen’s B to claim top spot.

In the last three years Carsons have only lost twice.

But their visitors from Calderbank did not follow the script and conquered Carsons in style.

Paul Cushen got them off to a great start with a 14-darter but during the singles matches there was just one point between the teams.

The Post seemed to be winning the vital legs.

Dougie Pairman was on the mark with 17-dart and 19-dart wins, while Tommy Rodman kept up the form with a 19-dart win.

Lee Pearson then shot a 19-dart win and Kenny Campbell sent them in at the break with a 20-dart win with a two-dart 90 checkout.

A share of the pairs games after the interval meant The Post secured the win and they have dragged their rivals down to second spot in the table.

This meant that the Workmen’s B could afford no mistakes against The Clansman.

The inconsistency of The Clansman came to the fore once again and the B boys ran out comfortable winners.

18-darters for Gerry Brown and Scott Gibb launched the Workies into top spot.

Another win for the Workmen’s A, this time against The Swan, means that they have now won the same number of games in the last three weeks as they have won in the last three years.

The Swan had no answers to the A team onslaught, with Charlie Morrisey hitting a 15- dart win and Robert McFadyean made his dominance count with 18-dart and 20-dart wins.

It was a local derby at The Barnyard in Coatbridge, where the visitors were The Eagle.

The away team were looking to continue their pursuit of the top three in the table and they got the job done.

The Eagle owe their win to a 100 checkout and a 21- dart win for Paddy Kiernan, which was matched by Tommy Slavin. Davie Gemmill was the star performer in the match with an 18-darter including a 143 checkout.

Andy Fagan was on top form for the Bank Social Club with a 21-dart win as they ran out good winners against their guests The Boar’s Head.

Laura Pearson was in good form with a 99 checkout which helped The Albert Bar beat bottom dogs Wilson Arms, who are still without a point. RESULTS for Monday, November 13: The Barnyard 5 The Eagle 7, Carsons 5 The Post 7, Workmen’s B 10 The Clansman 2, Bank Social Club 10 The Boar’s Head 2, Workmen’s A 8 The Swan 4, The Albert Bar 8 Wilson Arms 4.
