Final week to donate gifts to big toy appeal

-

It’s the final week of our fifth annual toy appeal – and this year’s campaign to give deserving local youngsters a fabulous Christmas will be finishing with a flourish.

Generous fans from the Airdrie supporters ’trust will once again be collecting gifts for the appeal at their annual Airdrie Aces festive party this Sunday; as well as gathering items for Airdrie foodbank.

More than500 items have now been handed in for this year’s toy appeal, at the supermarket collection points at both Monklands branches of Tesco, Morrisons in Airdrie and Asda in Coatbridge.

One week now remains to hand in gifts for this year’s appeal, with the final day for donations being next Wednesday, December 13.

We are asking generous Advertiser readers to give gifts for youngsters aged up to 16, which will then be distributed by volunteers from local good cause XACT – who are working alongside Monklands charities – and Spirit Aid via their toy appeal.

Tesco Coatbridge community champion Elizabeth Wilkie told the Advertiser: “The appeal is going really well again this year.

“We have a donation point in the store and another in our colleague room to allow staff to donate, and we’re seeing lots of great items like jigsaws, Lego and arts and crafts items.

“People are really getting behind the toy appeal and want to give just as generously as in previous years.”

The Airdrie Aces party takes place at 2pm in the Joey Rowan suite at New Broomfield, and is open to all interested children; for details, email airdrietrust@hotmail.com.
