Fundraiser rakes in record total

£7000 collected at lunch

- Ian Bunting

The latest hugely successful ladies’ lunch extravaganza held by the Moira Anderson Foundation has swelled the Airdrie charity’s coffers by an “amazing” £7000 – the highest amount ever raised by the event.

Hundreds of women from across Monklands were wined and dined in style as top- class entertainment was served up at Motherwell’s Dalziel Park Country Club in the sixth annual spectacular.

Former Pop Idol winner Michelle McManus was on hand to treat guests to some sensational songs and share some stories, during a delicious twocourse meal.

Joining Michelle on the bill were Lorraine Summers, Beth Swan and Liz Sloan and the audience were quick to raise a glass of bubbly to the star performers.

Mo ira Anderson Foundation event organiser Colin Scougall told the Advertiser: “Our ladies’ lunch has been running for six years and this is the most it has ever made.

“To raise £ 7000 is just amazing and this will make a real difference to the work being carried out by the foundation in supporting people who have suffered from childhood sexual abuse.

“The foundation team and I would like to take this opportunity to issue a huge thank you to everyone who supported the event in any way, shape or form.”

A date has already been set for next year’s lunch – September 16, in the same venue.

Colin will be taking a step back from his organisational duties to care for his mum – but is still set to play an important role at the foundation going forward.

He explained: “I won’t be involved in next year’s ladies’ lunch as I am stepping down from my event organiser role to concentrate on my carer duties.

“However, I won’t be leaving the Moira Anderson Foundation altogether as I have accepted the position of t r ustee on the organisation’s board of directors.

“I have had a wonderful time acting as event organiser – meeting a lot of wonderful people – but I am very excited about my new role within the foundation.”
