Amanda’s fab five stone loss
A Coatbridge mum has beaten diabetes after shedding an incredible five stones in just over a year.
Hard-working Amanda Cosgrove was inspired to turn to Slimming World when doctors warned she would have to start injecting herself with insulin if her weight continued to spiral out of control.
The 37-year-old – who at one point weighed almost 20 stones – told the Advertiser: “Back in 2010, I was diagnosed with type two diabetes. My diet was out of control and I was put on medication.
“I remember going to the diabetic nurse one time and I weighed in at more than 19 stones.
“I was told that if I didn’t start to control things better I would need to start injecting myself with insulin, which is something I’ve never wanted to do.
“I had got to the stage where I was totally disgusted and uncomfortable in my own skin and decided it was time to start loving myself; my lifestyle had to change.
“I heard a lot of people talking about how good Slimming World is so I contacted my local group – and it has been the best decision I have made in a long time.
“I may have lost weight, but I’ve also gained some of the best friends ever and having them on my journey, and me being part of theirs, has made the change so much easier.”
Amanda added: “I have come on leaps and bounds with my diabetes and I have now beaten it.
“I would highly recommend Slimming World to anyone looking to make changes in their lifestyle; it is definitely the way forward.”
