Gold award as pupils keep fit
Peak physical performance shone through at St Bartholomew’s Primary as the Coatbridge school scooped a prestigious prize.
Pupils and staff were“absolutely delighted”to win a Gold Sport Award from national organisation Sport Scotland.
The much sought after honour is in recognition of the school’s“hard work to improve the health and wellbeing of pupils through increased participation in PE and Sport”.
This includes pupils’engagement with, and success in, sport “within the school environment and the local community”.
The fighting fit youngsters take part in a range of challenging-but-fun activities in school, including dance, netball, football, cross country, cheerleading, zumba, gymnastics, basketball, Gaelic football and multi-sports.
St Bartholomew’s Gold Sport Award was presented to proud pupils and staff by Steven Lytham, Sport Scotland’s partnership manager for North Lanarkshire.
Ecstatic acting head teacher, Deirdre Bolland, told the Advertiser:“I am thrilled to receive this award, in recognition of the huge amount of hard work that our school community has contributed towards increasing activity levels for our pupils and, as a consequence, improving the health and wellbeing of all of our pupils.”
In order to secure the Gold Sport Award, schools have to fill in an“assessment tool”and provide evidence on core areas including PE, school sport, pathways and leadership.
Local club NL Cheer has worked very closely with St Bartholomew’s over the past couple of years and a spokesperson for the organisation said:“Many of the St Bartholomew’s pupils have pursued their passion for dance and continue to be involved in local clubs on a regular basis, with several even competing throughout the country.”
