- Mark Pirie

Three teams are fighting it out at the top of the Airdrie and District Darts League as they enter their winter break.

Leaders The Post will end the year top of the pile, with Carsons level on points and the Workmen’s B just a point behind.

The Post continued to play some quality darts as they welcomed the Boar’s Head.

The visitors made the trek to Calderbank, but couldn’t keep up with some outstanding displays.

The Post blitzed their opponents with Paul Cushen enjoying a 19-dart win, while Peter McKenzie took out 119.

Kenny Campbell notched a 16-dart victory while Tommy Rodman hit a 15-darter.

Mick Docherty also showed he can mix it with the best when he hit a 21-dart leg which included a 115 checkout.

Carsons went through the motions at home to The West End.

Jim McGeary hit a 180 and Derek Cunningham chipped-in with a brace of 18-dart wins - with The West End putting in a disappointing display that could only manage one chalk in reply.

The Workmen’s B were host to the Bank Social Club, and Gerry Brown got the show on the road with 17-dart and 18-dart wins.

Davy Cunningham romped to a 15dart victory, whereas Stuart Ferguson also struck a 146 checkout.

The Bankies never really got into the match despite being competitive throughout the tie.

The Workmen’s A good run of five victories in a row came to an end in Caldercruix thanks to a fine display from The Clansman.

Chris Fawcett was in top-form with a 18-dart victory and Alex McPheat hit a 20.

Wullie Gilmour then got in on the action with a 180.

Wilsons Arms continue to falter at the bottom of the league - despite giving The Eagle something to think about.

Struggling Wilsons managed to take three legs at an impressive Eagle, which will give them consolation that they can get a point somewhere.

In the end, The Eagle ran- out winners thanks to Ped Cummings accuracy with 20-dart and 21-dart wins.

The Barnyard also caused an upset as they won at home against The Swan.

The players will now take a break to enjoy the festive period before returning on January 8.

They will start back with the annual Harlequin Trophy.

The competition was last year won by The Clansman. RESULTS for Monday, December 18: Workmen’s B 10 Bank Social Club 2, Carsons 11 The West End 1, The Barnyard 7 The Swan 5, The Eagle 9 Wilsons Arms 3, The Post 10 Boar’s Head 2. The Clansman 9 Workmen’s A 3.
