Pupils say thanks and bid Miss Loney fond farewell
St Monica’s hold special mass for inspirational teacher
Past and present pupils at an Airdrie school paid tribute to a beloved member of staff set to begin her well- earned retirement.
Inspirational Kay Loney has touched hearts and set many a youngster on a strong educational path during her 38 years of exemplary service to St Monica’s Primary.
Kay was honoured for her contributions with a special farewell assembly mass held in the Kirkwood school.
Primary Seven teacher Kay was treated to musical performances, gift presentations and warm, heartfelt words from both current pupils and students she taught years ago.
A St Monica’s spokesperson said: “Kay has played an important role in preparing our children for all three sacraments and, in recent years, developed the Pope Francis Faith Award with the upper school.
“She is also a respected and valued member of the parish community.
“Kay will be sorely missed. We thank her for her years of wonderful service to the school and d wish i hh her well ll during d i h her retirement.
“Our parents, brothers and sisters have all benefitted from her knowledge, experience and humility.”
Kay spent all but one of her time in teaching at St Monica’s and a touching statement from Primary 7 kids taught by Kay read: “We were lucky enough to have Miss Loney in her final school year as class teacher. You have inspired us t to b be the th b best t we could ldb be and d took the time to get to know us and we were lucky enough to get to know you.
“Our mass is a celebration of your time at the school and the journey you have taken your pupils on.
“It is purely to say thank you, and we will miss you.
“We hope that you will keep us all in your thoughts and prayers.”
