Kindness for grieving Kyle

-

Our front-page story last week about tragic teenager Kyle Laird certainly resonated with our readers.

The Coatbridge 17-year-old has been left devastated by the sudden loss of his beloved mum Tracy, who passed away at Christmas time.

And to make matters worse, as well as grieving for his mum, only child Kyle had the added worry of wondering how he was going to make ends meet after being paid off from his seasonal job in a warehouse.

We highlighted Kyle’s plight in the hope that someone, somewhere, would respond and give the brave youngster a much-needed boost.

And what a response we received!

To date Kyle has had more than 40 offers of employment from kind-hearted companies and individuals across Monklands and beyond.

A JustGiving page set up to give him some much-needed financial support and security has now surpassed £10,000 in less than a week.

Additionally, Kyle has been offered free driving lessons from a generous local instructor.

If you add in his situation being discussed at First Minister’s Questions, it’s been quite a week for Kyle.

It’s often too easy to focus on the negative, whether in life or in print.

So when the opportunity to help someone in genuine need comes along it’s important to grasp it.

The Advertiser is glad to have been able to highlight Kyle’s story – and grateful to everyone who stepped up to help him.
