Motorist three times the limit for drink is banned from roads

-

An Airdrie man who got behind the wheel while more than three times the drinkdrive limit has been banned from the roads.

Francesco Delgreco, 51, has also been placed under supervision after pleading guilty to his reckless actions on November 29 last year.

The Deedes Street resident was caught while driving on the town’s Kennedy Drive.

In mitigation, his defence solicitor said: “My client pleaded guilty to this offence at an early stage.

“He has two jobs and is highly regarded in both of them, working at a local chip shop and also as a joiner.

“In fact, he carried out work on my roof not so long ago and I can assure you he is a very capable man.

“He has one daughter and is very close to his family whom he provides for financially. Although he and his wife are separated, he hopes to reconcile the relationship.

“He has two drink-related domestic issues on his record but that’s in the past.”

Sheriff Frank Pieri told Delgreco: “I will place you under supervision for one year. You must do as your supervising officer tells you during this time. Your early plea means I am not imposing any hours of unpaid work.

“I will also disqualify you from driving for 30 months and order you to undertake a rehabilitation course.

“If you are successful in this, your disqualification can be reduced to 23 months.

“I feel this is appropriate due to the high reading of alcohol in the report.”
