House prices on rise
Steady increase
The average property p r i ce i n N o r th Lanarkshire rose by 1.5 per cent in the 12 months up to November, going up by nearly £ 1500 to £102,727.
It compared unfavourably to the Scottish average increase of 3.6 per cent, and the rise of six per cent in neighbouring South Lanarkshire, where the average house value is now £123,804.
The figures are compiled by Registers of Scotland and contained in the latest monthly UK house price index; showing that 451 properties were sold in the local authority area during November 2017.
North Lanarkshire’s total represented the fifthhighest sales volume in the country, although it was still a significant 12.4 per cent reduction from the same month in the previous year.
Kenny Crawford from Registers of Scotland told the Advertiser: “Average prices in Scotland have been steadily increasing each month since March 2016, when compared with the same month of the previous year.”
He added that an overall decrease of 2.5 per cent in residential sales volumes was “in the context of greater decreases across the rest of the UK”.
The newest figures show that the average property price from the month’s 9323 sales in Scotland was £ 145,992; with first- time buyers paying on average £121,574.
Flats and maisonettes showed the biggest proportional increase of 7.2 per cent to £108,881, while detached properties showed an overall decrease of 3.6 per cent to £235,744.
