Cairnhill’s Agnes Coyle made her husband a Valentine’s Day offer he couldn’t refuse. She explained:“I bought him a new gold wedding band. That was my most memorable gift.”

With Valentine’s Day only a week away, love was definitely in the air on the streets of Airdrie when we asked Monklands’ sweethearts to share their favourite stories with us.

Coatbridge woman Joyce Mills, who will be celebrating her ruby wedding anniversary in July this year, confessed Airdrie visitor Maria Fiannacca said:“I asked my partner to take me to Iceland. Even though Valentine’s Day was closer to his birthday, he still took me on the trip of a lifetime.” that her most memorable Valentine’s Day was when she received her favourite Olly Murs CD from her husband.

She said: “It was a big thing for him as he usually asks my daughter to buy the gifts for him.”

Meanwhile, schoolboy Corry Laverty, 13, from Glenmavis was helping Cupid’s arrow along and showing some brotherly love after picking up a giant teddy bear on behalf of his big brother, Aiden.

Cairnhill woman Agnes Coyle said that her most memorable Valentine’s Day gift to her husband Michael was a new gold wedding band.

And Italian lovebird Mar ia Fianna c c a, originally from Sardinia who was visiting Airdrie town centre for the day, explained her partner took her on the trip of a lifetime to Iceland as a special Valentine’s gift.
