Maggie’s invite to seminar
Learning from focus group
Airdrie and Coatbridge patients and carers are wanted to give their views at a cancer treatment forum taking place at Maggie’s Lanarkshire next Wednesday.
Located in the grounds of University Hospital Monklands, the caring centre will host a session run by the West of Scotland cancer network on “future service models for systemic anti- cancer therapy” (SACT).
The term describes all medicines given for cancer treatment, with chemotherapy and biological therapy being among the routinely-used examples.
Eight to 10 participants are being sought to share their opinions of the “emerging service model for SACT” at the February 14 session, which takes place from 2pm to 3.30pm.
Ly n n Ma c k of Macmillan, who are helping to run the workshop, said: “The focus group will give people the opportunity to give their feedback and allow us to learn from their experiences, find out what really matters to them – and help ensure all patients and carers have the best possible care experience.”
The event comes shortly after last Sunday’s world cancer day, and Lynn added: “The theme was ‘ we can, I can’; which reflects our aim to directly involve people who have used SACT services, and their carers and families, to help enhance the service we provide.”
NHS Lanarkshire cancer services manager Margaret Kelly said: “Everyone’s opinion on the model of care is important and will help us to shape and develop future service delivery in Lanarkshire and across the west of Scotland.”
She added: “Al l comments will be completely confidential; any personal information, for example where you received treatment, will be removed, and regardless of whether you chose to take part, it will not affect any current or future treatment or care.”
Refreshments will be provided for participants and NHS Lanarkshire can cover any expenses incurred in attending; to register interest in participating, email iona. scott@ggc.scot.nhs.uk or call 0141 211 1145.
