Social club Activities this week include bingo on Sunday night, with tickets on sale from 8pm and eyes down at 8.30pm. The Lucky Joker is drawn at 8.25pm on Sundays, with tickets – priced £1 – on sale from committee members and bar staff throughout the week. Teddy bears’ picnic The children’s committee will hold a teddy bears’ picnic and bear hunt on Sunday, March 25, from 2pm to 4pm. All kids in the village are invited, and asked to bring along their teddy bears. A raffle will also take place on the day and any donations will be greatly appreciate­d. Applicatio­n forms are now available from the social club bar staff and committee members, and must be returned on, or before, Sunday, March 18. Drop-in cafe at Greengairs Parish Church hall will restart on Tuesday, February 20, from 1pm to 1.30pm. Villagers are welcome to come along and enjoy home baking with tea or coffee. Back Brae Gospel Hall The Sunday school runs from 2.30pm to 3.15pm, with the breaking of the bread also taking place on Sunday, at 11am. The evening gospel meeting is held at 6.30pm every Sunday, except the last Sunday of the month when the service runs from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. A prayer and Bible reading is held every Wednesday from 7.30pm to 9pm. All welcome.

Miners’ memorial The Stanrigg Miners’ Memorial is open to all who wish to visit. July 9 this year will mark 100 years since 19 miners lost their lives in the disaster and the retired miners’ committee is arranging a remembranc­e service on Sunday, July 8; anyone interested in helping to commemorat­e the anniversar­y can call 01236 830637. Transport to the memorial can also be arranged by calling the same number above.

Councillor­s’ surgeries Councillor Sophia Coyle will hold her surgeries in the village on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month, from 6pm to 6.30pm. Councilor Tommy Morgan hosts surgeries on Saturdays, February 10 and 24, at midday, with Councillor David Cullen’s consultati­on taking place on Tuesday, March 20. All three councillor­s meet in the community hall.

Baillies Lane marching band Practice takes place on Tuesdays in the social club from 7pm to 9pm. New flute and drum learners are welcome to attend; call John on 07525 064303 for further details.

De Capo music group Sessions run on Mondays from 6pm to 9pm in the orange hall on Baillies Lane. Anyone who would like to play the orchestral flute and drums are welcome to attend the group; contact John on 07525 064303.
