Wilsons get off the mark in nervy affair

Boar’s Head narrowly defeated

- Sports reporter

Attention turned to the bottom of the Airdrie and District Darts League as Wilson Arms pulled off a shock win to secure their first points of the campaign.

Visiting Boar’s Head were hoping their star performers, father and son Jim and Ross Walker, would help create a gap over their hosts Wilsons, who were relying on Seamus Wilson and Kevin Brereton to inspire them in the race to avoid the wooden spoon.

It was a nervy clash going into the last double, with the Wilson squad already in party mode knowing they had secured at least a draw and a point.

The Boar’s Head had chances, but in the end were relying on a win in the last pairs to rescue something from the game.

Despite getting down to the double first, they failed to execute the finish as Wilsons closed the gap on their rivals to two points.

The Post put pressure on Carsons at the top of the table with a whitewash victory which pushed opponents The West End further into the scrap at the foot of the league.

Dougie Pairman had a 19-dart win while Kenny Campbell won in two darts less. Laura Pearson did have a 180 for the home team but failed to win her tie.

Carsons defeated the plucky Workmen’s A, despite a tough time in the pairs games.

After winning all the singles they let their guard drop a little and lost the pairs games, however saw out the win in the end.

At The Bank Social Club, The Eagle were the visitors. A 180 from Bill Brown with an 18- dart win and another maximum from Craig McKinnon were good stats for The Eagle.

Captain Tommy Slavin was also in form and scored a 19-dart win.

At Chapelhall, The Clansman were the visitors to The Swan in what looked the hardest game to call on the night and so it proved.

Iain Randall had a 119-checkout in a 21-dart win for the visitors for The Clansman, before Jim Parker of The Swan hit a 180 with a 21-dart win and a 113 checkout.

Lauchie Black complemented that with a 21- dart win to ensure they shared the points.

The Barnyard were the guests of the Workmen’s B and looked to cause an upset, with Archie Grant overcoming Gerry Brown with a bull finish and a 20-dart win to level the game at one a piece.

In the end, a 21- dart win and a 116 checkout from Scott Gibb and a 20-dart win for Cammy Reynolds handed the Workies the victory. RESULTS for Monday, February 12: Wilson Arms 7 Boar’s Head 5, West End 0 The Post 12, The Swan 6 The Clansman 6, Bank Social Club 4 The Eagle 8, Workmen’s B 8 The Barnyard 4, Carsons 8 Workmen’s A 4.
